Feel like stretching your legs? Consider a 2.5 - 3 hour hike along the Nipigon River Recreational Trail that runs just over 8 km connecting both the Nipigon and Red Rock Marinas. Although the trail is open 12 months a year, one of the most popular times runs from mid August through October when hikers can enjoy great photo opportunities as the local forests display a rainbow of colours as the leaves and foliage take on their fall colours. No matter what time of the year you choose to hike the trail, you will be rewarded with majestic vistas from several lookout points the most dramatic of which is Eagle's Ridge.

Open from June 1st through September 8th each year, the Nipigon Marina is promoted as North America's most northerly freshwater port and features a deep water channel from the entrance at Lake Superior all the way to its full service facilities. The marina offers a host of services including RV parking, camping, showers, liquor store, laundry and groceries.

Located a little over 20 miles west of Nipigon and just under 40 miles north east of Thunder Bay, Ouimet Canyon is a must stop and see attraction for anyone traveling in the area. This amazing gorge cuts 330 feet deep and is almost 500 feet wide in places and runs over a mile long. There are designated trails, walkways and viewing platforms. The park is open for day use only from Mid May to Mid October.

Orient Bay is part of a 20 mile long canyon that is formed by the Nipigon River flowing south from Lake Nipigon to Lake Superior. Here, about 25 miles north of Nipigon, enthusiasts will find some of the best ice climbing in North America with over 100 ice climbs available along a 12 mile stretch.

While Ouimet Canyon is a provincially managed park area, nearby Eagle Canyon is a commercially operated attraction featuring on-site camping, two foot bridges which spann the gorge. In addition, visitors with a spirit for adventure can take the zip line challenge through the canyon which is advertised as Canada's longest, fastest and highest zip line.
